Radiofrequency ablation, also referred to as Catheter ablation, is a minimally invasive medical procedure in which a small faulty portion of the electrical conduction system of the heart, which is causing abnormal or irregular heartbeats, is destroyed or scarred using the heat generated from medium frequency alternating current (350 to 500 kHz). This procedure restores the normal rhythm of the heart by using radiofrequency energy.
RFA is used to treat irregular heartbeat or loss of heart rhythm (Arrhythmia) when medicines fail to work effectively or the patient is not able to tolerate them.
